3 Weeks...
Yesterday was Jonah's 3 week birthday. We celebrated it in a wonderful way - first Jonah had a GREAT day - he ate well, took good naps and he even had stretches of alertness where we played and entertained mom and dad.
Jonah has had this habit since we brough him home of sleeping really well in the evening for a long stretch (long stretch is like 4-5 hours). In addition that nap was always taken either in our arms or in the Boppy on the couch with mamma. We finally decided it was time to try to get this little guy to take that long stretch later in the evening so that it would go into the night time as well.
SO - his 3 week birthday was the perfect time as any to make our first attempt to get this little fella on a schedule. So, we played a lot in the early evening and then at 8pm we gave him a bath (as opposed to doing a morning bath like we have been doing). Then we gave him a bottle, cuddled and at 9pm we put him in his crib.
For the first time in 3 weeks we had an hour where we were alone and not frantically getting to bed because it was after midnight. So, we celebrated his birthday and this success with some champaigne that a friend gave us. It was so odd to sit in silence and to enjoy something so simple. We went to bed at 10pm and let me tell you - it was heaven!
Jonah slept his long stretch - (till 1pm). Now if only we can get him to eat a bit better (more)...he may sleep a little longer.
It's funny how before a baby we thought that a night where we got only 6 hours of interupted sleep was horrible - is now a dream. Luckily, this is just temporarily (so they say) - and soon, like a couple months, he'll be sleeping through the night. Till then - we'll celebrate the little successes and do what we can to go to bed early.
